Scraps into a Pantry Staple!

I love not wasting food and turning what I have into usable deliciousness! Using your onion scraps is a great way to accomplish this goal. I keep all my onion scraps in a bag in the freezer, when I’ve got a pretty good pile, I make onion powder! I take all the scraps and stick them in the oven as low as your oven can go. Then just leave em until they are fully dehydrated (mine took around 10 hours). After that just grind into a powder and store in your pantry.

... Read moreOnion powders are a versatile addition to any pantry and can elevate a variety of dishes. The process of making onion powder at home is simple: collect your onion scraps, dehydrate them, and grind them into a fine powder. Not only does this method help you avoid food waste, but it also allows you to control the seasoning in your meals. This healthy alternative can be used in soups, stews, and seasonings for meats or vegetables. Moreover, homemade onion powder is free from preservatives and additives, making it a healthier option than store-bought alternatives. To ensure the best quality, use fresh scraps and store the finished powder in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. This way, you can enjoy a fresh onion flavor that can easily be integrated into your favorite recipes, contributing to a more sustainable cooking practice while enhancing the flavor profiles of your dishes.
