Seems like a lot of you girls were confused about how to use leg press for different muscle groups. So, here is my simplified version of different stances you can perform to target different muscle groups.
Keep in mind that you are only biasing certain muscle group which means if for example you are trying to target your glutes doesn't mean your quads are not in action. Hope it clears up confusions. #gymtutorial
From my experience, customizing your leg press stance can drastically change which muscles get worked the hardest. When aiming to emphasize the quads, placing your feet lower on the platform and closer together can really make your front thigh muscles take the lead. For better glute activation, I shift my feet higher on the platform and slightly wider apart, which helps recruit more of the hip and buttock muscles. When targeting the inner thighs, positioning the feet wider and pointing them slightly outward engages those inner thigh muscles effectively. It’s important to remember that while adjusting your stance biases certain muscles, others remain active to support the movement. For instance, even during glute-focused presses, your quads still contribute power to the exercise. Starting with a moderate weight and focusing on form is crucial, as improper technique can reduce effectiveness and increase injury risk. Personally, I also find it helpful to combine leg press variations with complementary exercises like lunges and hip thrusts to ensure balanced lower body strength. Tracking your progress by noting which stance and foot position feels most effective can help you tailor your workouts over time. So, don’t be afraid to experiment with small adjustments to discover what works best for your body and fitness goals.
