Let’s talk about slow fashion - sustainability

Did you know that one of the biggest ecological problems we have right now it is the fashion industry trash?

Did you know that you can contribute to the solution?

If you care about this planet we live in it, maybe you should do your part. It can be simple decisions…and it doesn’t matter how old you are.

✨Do I really want this product? Am I going to wear it? Or trash it?

✨ I really like this product. Is the quality good enough to last so that doesn’t end up in the landfill soon?

✨ How was this made? Was slave labor used? If I am paying $5 USD for a dress, it doesn’t make sense 🤔

We don’t need a million products in the closet. Just need the right products 🤔

What do you have to say? Go…

... Read moreI used to have a closet overflowing with clothes, many of them worn only once or twice before being relegated to the 'donate' pile. Sound familiar? It felt good in the moment to grab a cheap top, but the guilt of contributing to the massive fashion industry trash pile eventually caught up. That's when I started my journey into slow fashion, and I've learned so much about how my choices can truly make a difference. So, what exactly is slow fashion? It's more than just buying fewer clothes. It's a holistic approach to clothing that considers the entire lifecycle of a garment, from how it's made to how long it lasts and how it's eventually disposed of. It’s about being intentional, valuing quality over quantity, and understanding the impact of our purchases. When I started asking myself, 'Do I really want this product? Am I going to wear it?' it changed my entire shopping perspective. One of the biggest eye-openers for me was realizing the importance of sustainable materials. Instead of reaching for fast-fashion synthetics, I now look for natural fibers like organic cotton, linen, hemp, or even innovative recycled fabrics. These choices often mean the garment is more breathable, comfortable, and has a smaller environmental footprint. It's like seeing a label that says 'Sustainable Materials' and instantly knowing you're making a better choice. Then there's the question of ethically made clothing. If a dress costs five dollars, it’s a pretty strong indicator that someone further down the supply chain isn't being paid a fair wage or working in safe conditions. Looking for brands that are transparent about their manufacturing processes and worker treatment has become a priority. It's about supporting businesses that value people as much as profit. Just like a label proudly stating 'Ethically Made,' these brands stand out. Another crucial aspect is high quality and durability. Fast fashion is often designed to fall apart after a few washes, pushing us into a cycle of constant buying. Slow fashion encourages investing in pieces that are well-constructed, made from durable fabrics, and designed to last. I've found that learning a few basic garment care tips – like washing less often, using cold water, and air-drying – can significantly extend the life of my clothes. This focus on 'High Quality' leads to 'durable clothing choices' that stay in your wardrobe for years, not months. Ultimately, slow fashion is about conscious consumption and choosing items that truly resonate with you—a 'Product I Love,' as one label put it. It means taking the time to consider if an item fits your personal style, will integrate well with your existing wardrobe, and will bring you joy for a long time. It’s also about exploring alternatives to buying new, like repairing clothes, upcycling, swapping with friends, or diving into the treasure trove of second-hand and vintage shopping. My journey has shown me that you don't need a million products in your closet; you just need the right ones. Every small decision we make contributes to a more sustainable world.

I think it’s also helpful to buy things that can easily be mixed and matched in mutliple outfits. It’s a good way to ensure clothing will actually be used and you won’t need as many items of clothing if you can create tons of combinations with a few staple pieces!
