... Read moreIncorporating somatic movements into your daily routine can be transformative, especially when you often feel tense or anxious. From personal experience, starting with a simple shake of your hands or entire body can instantly release accumulated stress. It’s incredible how this small act sends a calming signal to your nervous system, making you feel grounded and safe. Slow neck rolls are another movement I’ve found extremely helpful. They not only relieve tension around the neck and jaw—a common stress-holding area—but also promote lymphatic flow from the head, which is vital for detoxification and overall wellness. The chest opening stretch is a superb posture corrector. After long hours of sitting hunched over, opening the chest with hands behind the back feels revitalizing. It opens your breathing space, boosts heart area circulation, and promotes emotional openness. Finally, gentle rocking or swaying acts as a form of self-soothing. The rhythmic motion calms the nervous system much like rocking a child. It’s grounding and comforting, helping to reduce anxiety and cultivate relaxation. These movements emphasize safety and gentle self-care rather than intensity, which is key when supporting a stressed nervous system. Practicing these regularly can enhance the mind-body connection, lymphatic health, and nervous system regulation—helping you feel more balanced and less tense throughout your day.

I’m a big fan of the swaying. Just think - we instinctively do it to help babies calm down, why not for ourselves?🥰

The image introduces "Somatic Awareness: Listening to the Body's Wisdom" with questions about its definition and practice, set against a backdrop of dark water with green lily pads and white water lilies.
This image defines somatic awareness as listening to the body's felt sense for healing trauma, emphasizing restoring inner safety and reconnecting with the body through sensation, breath, and presence.
The image explains how shifting awareness to bodily sensations regulates the nervous system by engaging specific brain areas, and advises to "feel, name, witness" when triggered for presence without force.
What is somatic awareness & how do we practice it?
Your body holds ancient wisdom. It’s not broken—it’s speaking. Somatic awareness isn’t about fixing… it’s about listening. When you tune into sensation, you shift from survival to sovereignty. Feel. 🌀 Name. 🌀 Witness. 🌀 This is nervous system healing. This is the path home. #somatichealing
