the TRUTH about Greasy hair & how to fix it

Okay, let’s talk about it… the truth about greasy hair 🫣

We all know that feeling.. you wash your hair at night, wake up the next morning, and somehow your roots already look oily. It’s honestly one of the most annoying things ever, and I used to struggle with it constantly. But after experimenting for a while, I realized a lot of it comes down to habits and not just products.

Here’s what’s actually helped me, and what could help your hair too:

1️⃣ Sleeping with a silk pillowcase — it reduces friction and keeps oils from transferring to your hair overnight.

2️⃣ Using a microfiber towel — it absorbs water gently without over-drying or irritating your scalp.

3️⃣ Lightweight hair oils only — they hydrate without that heavy, greasy residue.

4️⃣ Never going to bed with wet hair! Seriously, this one changed everything.

Since making these small swaps, your can hair last longer between washes, feel cleaner, and look more balanced overall. But I’m curious, what do you think causes greasy hair the most? Is it overwashing? Product buildup? The pillowcase you use? Let’s talk in the comments, I want to hear what’s helped you too!

... Read moreGreasy hair is a common frustration, but understanding what truly causes it can empower you to manage it more effectively. Many people assume oily hair is just due to natural scalp oils, but habits and hair care routines play a huge role. One key habit is sleeping on a silk pillowcase, which minimizes friction and prevents oil transfer from skin to hair throughout the night, keeping roots less greasy. Another helpful tip is to switch to a microfiber towel for drying your hair. Unlike regular towels, microfiber gently absorbs water without irritating the scalp or causing excess dryness, which can actually trigger the scalp to produce more oil. When it comes to styling, using lightweight hair oils, such as Olaplex Bonding Oil, adds moisture without weighing hair down or leaving a greasy residue. Heavy oils or multiple products can build up and contribute to oily roots. A crucial but often overlooked habit is avoiding going to bed with wet hair. Sleeping with damp hair creates a humid environment that can increase oiliness and scalp buildup, worsening greasy hair. In addition to these habits, you might want to evaluate how often you wash your hair. Overwashing strips natural oils, prompting the scalp to overproduce oil, while underwashing can lead to product buildup and grease accumulation. Finding the right balance tailored to your hair type is essential. Keep an eye on other lifestyle factors like diet, stress levels, and environmental pollution, as they can also influence scalp oil production. By adopting these simple but effective changes to your hair care routine, you can keep your hair looking clean, balanced, and fresh for longer between washes. Remember, greasy hair is manageable with the right knowledge and habits—feel free to share your own tips and experiences in the comments to help others too!

I have the same issue. What helped me with hair oil is rinsing my hair with vinegar and rose tea once a week. I also use cold water at the end of a shower.
