NYC Cheap Eats🔥$11 Chicken Rice!!

As a certified chicken lover, I’m always on the hunt for a solid plate of Hainanese chicken rice. Heard about this spot near NYU and had to check it out—just wish I’d brought more people so we could try everything!

🔥 Steamed Chicken Rice—The classic choice, and they do it right. Tender chicken, flavorful oil-infused rice, and yes, offal included! But the real star? That ginger-chili sauce—perfect balance of tangy and spicy. The side of daikon soup was warm and comforting too.

🔥 Larb Chicken Wings—Super crispy, but personally a bit too sour for me. Next time, I’ll stick with the regular wings.

🔥 Custard with Sticky Rice—Had high hopes, but at $8, it was just okay. Would probably skip it next time.

Still, for $11 Hainanese chicken rice in NYC? Solid deal. Definitely coming back to try the roasted and fried versions!

... Read moreI've been on a mission to find the most authentic and delicious Hainanese chicken rice spots across NYC, and let me tell you, it's a journey worth taking! For those new to this amazing dish, Hainanese chicken rice, often known by its Thai name 'Khao Man Gai,' is a superstar in Southeast Asian cuisine. It's not just about the chicken; it's a symphony of flavors and textures. The chicken is typically poached to perfection, resulting in incredibly tender, moist meat, often served with a side of savory chicken broth. But the real magic often lies in the rice itself – cooked in chicken stock with ginger and garlic, it’s unbelievably fragrant and flavorful, making every spoonful a delight. One of the things I love most about places like ME CHICKEN RICE is the variety they offer beyond the classic Steamed Chicken Rice. While the steamed version is my go-to for its purity and tenderness, I’m equally intrigued by the Roasted Chicken Rice and Fried Chicken Rice options. The roasted version brings a lovely crispy skin and a different depth of flavor, while the fried version offers a unique crunch that can be incredibly satisfying. It’s a fantastic way to experience the dish in different forms, depending on your craving. I’m definitely planning my next visit to try both the Roasted Chicken Rice, which I saw on their menu for around $13.95, and the Fried Chicken Rice, priced at about $12.95. It's rare to find such variety and value in the city! Speaking of value, finding a quality meal for just $11 in NYC is a huge win. I've tried countless chicken and rice dishes, and what truly sets a great one apart are the accompanying sauces. The ginger-chili sauce at ME CHICKEN RICE? Absolutely divine. It adds that essential tangy, spicy kick that elevates every bite. Don’t forget the dark soy sauce too, which provides a rich, slightly sweet counterpoint. These small details are what make the experience truly memorable. For anyone exploring NYC's vibrant food scene, especially if you're looking for cheap eats, don't overlook these specialized spots. Beyond just chicken rice, you often find other comforting options like Chicken Rice Soup, perfect for a chilly day. My tip for finding these hidden gems is to explore neighborhoods near universities or cultural centers, where you often find authentic, budget-friendly options catering to diverse palates. It’s all about seeking out those local favorites that offer a taste of home, even if home is halfway across the world. And for those curious about the sheer versatility of chicken and rice, it truly is a global staple. From Spanish paella to Indian biryani, and even more unique interpretations like a "chicken and rice shake" (though I prefer mine on a plate!), every culture has its own beloved version. Hainanese chicken rice, or Khao Man Gai, stands out for its elegant simplicity and profound flavors. Trust me, once you try a well-made Hainanese chicken rice, you'll understand why it has such a devoted following and why I keep coming back for more!
