iPadOS 26 Featured Part 3: 3D Lockscreen

2025/9/15 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I'm still buzzing from updating my iPad to the latest iPadOS 26, and seriously, the 3D Lockscreen feature is an absolute game-changer! I know a lot of you have been curious about how to get those amazing 3D wallpapers, and trust me, it's even cooler than you think. I've spent some time playing around with it, and I wanted to share my best tips and tricks to make your lock screen truly pop. First off, what exactly is this 3D Lockscreen hype about? It’s basically Apple's ingenious way of adding depth to your wallpaper, making elements of your photo appear in front of the clock and widgets. It's not just a flat image anymore; there's a real sense of dimension. When you’re choosing a photo, the system intelligently recognizes subjects in the foreground and creates this awesome layering effect. It’s super subtle but makes a huge difference in how premium and personalized your iPad feels every time you pick it up. So, how do you get started with these stunning 3D wallpapers? It's pretty straightforward! Once you're on iPadOS 26, head over to your settings, then 'Wallpaper,' and tap 'Add New Wallpaper.' This is where the magic begins. You can choose from Apple's curated "Collection" of dynamic wallpapers, which are already designed to beautifully utilize the 3D effect. But the real fun, for me anyway, comes from using my own photos! I've found that photos with a clear subject in the foreground work best. Think "Selfie" shots where your face is prominent, or pictures of pets, statues, or even certain landscapes where there’s a distinct object closer to the camera. I usually browse through my "Favorites" album for inspiration. After selecting a photo, the system will automatically try to apply the depth effect. You can pinch to zoom and move the image around. If you see the clock or widgets disappear behind your subject, you know the 3D effect is active! Sometimes, I even play around with "Slo-mo" captures from my camera roll, although they won't be animated as a static wallpaper, the high-quality stills can still look incredible with the depth. One little trick I learned is that sometimes you need to adjust the photo slightly. There's usually an option to 'ta Anch to Crop' (or simply crop/adjust) to ensure your subject is perfectly positioned for the depth effect. If your photo isn't cooperating, try moving the subject slightly away from the edges of the frame or choosing a different photo. Not every picture will work perfectly, but with a little experimentation, you'll find some real gems. Beyond just the 3D effect, iPadOS 26 has really stepped up the entire lock screen customization game. You can change the font and color of the clock, add widgets for quick info like weather, calendar events, or battery life, and even create multiple lock screens that you can easily swipe between. This level of personalization means your iPad truly reflects your style and provides practical info at a glance. It's not just about aesthetics; it's about making your device more functional and enjoyable. Seriously, if you haven't explored the 3D Lockscreen and all the new lock screen features on iPadOS 26 yet, you're missing out! It's one of those updates that just makes using your iPad a little bit more joyful every day. Go ahead, give your iPad a fresh, dynamic look!
