Many people, including myself, often equate weight changes directly with dietary habits or physical activity. However, the reality is much more complex. For instance, engaging in regular exercise does not always immediately result in weight loss because muscle gain, water retention, and hormonal fluctuations play significant roles. Additionally, societal pressures to monitor others' weight and eating habits can be damaging. I've found that stepping away from judgment—both of myself and others—helps cultivate a more positive relationship with food and body image. Rejecting diet culture, as the hashtags #mauditesdietes and #antidietculture suggest, encourages focusing on well-being rather than numbers on a scale. This shift also means understanding that eating more or less is not inherently tied to gaining or losing weight, as metabolism and other factors influence outcomes. Embracing this complexity has helped me develop a healthier mindset where physical activity is valued for enjoyment and strength rather than solely for weight control. Ultimately, listening to your body's needs without judgment fosters sustainable habits and self-acceptance.
