Stop being your iPhone’s Assistant
Your iPhone can run automations, trigger ChatGPT, and text you like a personal assistant.
But sure… keep opening the Notes app just to write “groceries.”
Save this and give your phone an actual job.
Transforming your iPhone into a true personal assistant is easier than you might think, especially when you harness the power of Notes, Shortcuts, and Automations along with AI like ChatGPT. I started by using my Notes app as a central knowledge base—storing important context, preferences, and examples that ChatGPT can understand. This prevents repetitive typing and keeps the assistant informed with your unique style and tasks. Next, I created specific Shortcuts that assigned jobs to my phone. For example, I set up a Shortcut that summarizes notes and drafts to-do lists automatically, then syncs the output to Notion. This delegation means I don’t have to follow up manually; my iPhone does the heavy lifting. Finally, I scheduled these tasks through Automations. I programmed when and how these shortcuts run—whether it’s tracking spending when I use a Wallet pass, or summarizing notes every morning at 8 AM. This way, my personal assistant works reliably on a schedule, without me having to prompt it constantly. By combining these three elements—context in Notes, defined tasks in Shortcuts, and timing with Automations—you create an ecosystem where your iPhone is more than a device; it acts like a highly efficient assistant. It frees up a lot of mental space and reduces daily friction, letting you focus on what matters. If you haven’t given your iPhone a real job yet, try these steps. It’s like having a digital assistant that never needs a coffee break!
