Your arms get tired from the compressions, and your mind races to keep track of timing and procedures. The training also highlighted the importance of teamwork and troubleshooting when something doesn’t go as planned, such as when the chest compressions are ineffective. After the hands-on session, returning to studying and choir practice felt like a stark contrast but also emphasized the demanding life of a med student. Balancing learning with extracurriculars requires intentional time management. Since this experience, I’ve been more focused on making study sessions count by minimizing distractions like excessive typing and instead engaging more with active recall methods. Being BLS certified gives a deeper sense of responsibility and readiness to handle real emergencies. Whether it’s in clinical rotations or unexpected situations, having these skills is empowering. To fellow med students or anyone curious, I highly recommend immersing yourself in BLS training—not only will it prepare you to potentially save lives, but it also offers a realistic glimpse into the demands of medical practice. These moments definitely stick with you, far beyond the classroom.
