With everything going on...

I've come to find myself looking inward and questioning what's happening. I am the descendant of slaves, I am the descendant of Mexican migrants, and I am the descendant of the Taíno indians. My daughter and I are a wonderful mix of so many beautiful cultures, and all of them are being threatened right now.

I don't understand why people claim it's not about race. I don't understand why people say it's not hate. That we are overreacting, that we are fear mongering, that we are being dramatic. I don't understand because it's being shown to us consistently. All three races that are in me have been persecuted throughout history up until now. So, I will be one of those voices calling out against this injustice.

I will tell you that you're wrong, that my people are scared, and that we will fight. Because we will. We will fight for what's just, for our rights, for equality. If that makes you feel uncomfortable... good.

Being uncomfortable is just the start of it. We've been shrouded in fear, ridiculed, beaten, shunned, and oppressed. It's high time you start feeling uncomfortable.

If I can't protest, I'll do it in my own way, the best way I know how. And if you don't like it... well... good.

... Read moreThe ongoing dialogue around race and cultural identity is essential in today's world. The concept of racial identity goes beyond ethnicity; it encompasses the shared experiences and histories of oppressed communities. The Taíno, who were the indigenous people of the Caribbean, have faced historical injustices, much like African slaves and Mexican migrants. Their stories intertwine and highlight a shared narrative of resilience. Recent movements advocating for social justice have shed light on these historical contexts, urging society to confront uncomfortable truths. Raising awareness through personal narratives allows for a collective understanding of what it means to be part of marginalized communities. It is crucial for individuals to support one another in this journey of advocacy. This involves not only recognizing the injustices faced by these cultures but also acting against them. The discomfort that arises from discussing these topics is vital; it indicates the need for change. When individuals are willing to engage in these conversations, they contribute to a larger movement towards equity and inclusion. Challenging biases and confronting prejudices begins at the individual level, influencing wider societal change. It's time to unite in acknowledgment of our past while forging a path toward a more equitable future.

My “everything” shower

1. If you don’t know EXACTLY what you want to do (and most people don’t) go to community college for your general education courses. Yes you do miss some experiences BUT you save thousands and more and more people are doing this 2. Sometimes not getting into your dream school is a total blessing
