Endometriosis 🎗

Endometriosis is a complex disease that affects many women globally from the onset of their first period (menarche) through menopause, regardless of ethnic origin or social status. Many different factors are thought to contribute to its development. At present, endometriosis is thought to arise due to: retrograde menstruation, cellular metaplasia, and stem cells.

Endometriosis has significant social, public health, and economic implications. It can decrease quality of life due to severe pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and infertility. Some individuals with endometriosis experience debilitating pain that prevents them from going to work or school.

Painful sex due to endometriosis can lead to interruption or avoidance of intercourse and affect the sexual health of affected individuals and their partners.

Addressing endometriosis will empower those affected by it by supporting their human right to the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health, quality of life, and overall well-being.

... Read moreEndometriosis affects around 190 million women and girls globally, presenting with severe symptoms such as painful periods, pelvic pain, and fatigue. Early diagnosis is crucial, as it often begins at menarche and lasts until menopause. Although there is no cure, treatment usually focuses on symptom management through medications, hormonal therapies, and lifestyle adjustments. Awareness is vital, as many women experience misdiagnosis or lack adequate support, leading to emotional distress. Connecting with support groups can provide community and resources to navigate the challenges of living with endometriosis. Additionally, ongoing research is aimed at better understanding the disease and exploring innovative treatment options. By recognizing endometriosis's impact on reproductive health and quality of life, we can advocate for increased research funding and awareness campaigns. Enhanced education and resources are essential for developing effective management strategies, ultimately empowering individuals affected by this debilitating condition.
