Am I a bad mom?

Because I read labels.

Because I try to keep our meals simple, clean, and made with real ingredients.

Because I don’t want my kids living on dyes, preservatives, and things I can’t even pronounce.

But also… we get ice cream at the ballpark. 🍦

We grab popcorn after a game.

We celebrate with cake, candy, and all the fun stuff too.

I’m just a mom trying to do better where I can—while still letting my kids enjoy being kids. 💛

Like many, I started by carefully reading labels and opting for simple, clean meals made with real ingredients. Avoiding artificial dyes, preservatives, and unpronounceable additives became a personal mission because it felt essential to nourish my children well. But over time, I realized that parenting isn’t just about strict rules or perfect diets; it’s also about creating joyful memories. Whether it’s grabbing ice cream at a ballpark after an energetic game or sharing popcorn during family movie nights, allowing a little indulgence has brought smiles and strengthened our bond. What helped me the most was learning to embrace flexibility without guilt. Some days, we eat foods enriched with wholesome ingredients like avocado oil, organic snacks, or dark chocolate with sea salt, inspired by healthier product options available on the market. Other days, cake, candy, and treats make appearances during celebrations, and that’s perfectly okay. I’ve found that openly discussing food choices with my kids empowers them to understand balance and moderation. Rather than labeling foods as ‘good’ or ‘bad,’ we focus on enjoying a variety of flavors mindfully. This approach reduces anxiety around eating and encourages a lifelong positive relationship with food. So, to fellow parents wondering if stepping back from rigid health routines makes them “bad moms” — you’re not alone. It’s about doing your best and letting your kids be kids. Ultimately, love and shared experiences matter more than perfection in meal planning.
