The “Sh*t He Says” Edition
A lot of what is framed as a compliment or an observation by men really boils down to a massive transference of labor.
They speak, and we internalize.
They observe, and we adjust.
Eventually, we realize we are not receiving the love we need. Link in bio ✨

In my experience, many of the phrases or "compliments" men often say can unintentionally place a burden on our emotional well-being. For example, remarks like "You’re so strong" or "You handle it all so well" might seem encouraging at first, but they often mask an expectation that we continue to absorb stress silently. This emotional transference leads to internalizing their observations and constantly adjusting ourselves to meet undefined standards, which, over time, results in burnout. I've found it crucial to recognize these dynamics early. When I started identifying these moments as not just compliments, but as invisible labor, I learned to communicate my boundaries more clearly. Instead of simply internalizing and adjusting, I began sharing how such comments made me feel and expressed my need for genuine support rather than just acknowledgment. It’s also important to cultivate environments where vulnerability is embraced on both sides. This means encouraging honest conversations about feelings and needs, and realizing that love and appreciation should go beyond surface-level observations—they should be about truly supporting each other without shifting the emotional workload. Moreover, in moments when you notice yourself constantly adapting after hearing such comments, take a moment to reflect on what love and care truly feel like for you. Are you feeling seen and supported, or merely expected to endure? Understanding this can be a powerful step toward healing burnout and fostering healthier relationships. Remember, genuine connection means both partners share emotional labor and respect each other's needs equally.
