💜 Volunteer Notes:
Favorite of the day!! How could you not love this dog? When I approached her kennel, she politely greeted me and sat to be leashed. She walked like a dream outside. She had an absolute blast playing with her new bestie Beauty. She desperately wants to be a lap dog so I can guarantee you that she will be on your lap, wanting all the cuddles while you’re watching a good movie. She’s fine with both male and female doggies and she’s very gentle, takes treats gently. You can definitely see some urine staining on her so she’s probably been kept in a kennel for many hours of the day. But that does not diminish her spirit. She’s an absolute sweetheart, and would make an amazing dog for a family!

Having volunteered at animal shelters, I can attest that dogs like Mia often endure long hours confined to kennels, which can lead to visible stress indicators such as urine staining. Despite this, Mia’s gentle nature and affectionate behavior show her resilience and eagerness for a loving environment. From personal experience, dogs who are lap dogs and sociable with other animals bring immense joy and companionship into the home. Mia’s polite greeting and calm leash walking are signs of good training potential and adaptability to family life. It’s heartbreaking that she is on an imminent euthanasia list, but with swift foster or adoption action, her life can be transformed. If you are local to Houston and considering adoption or fostering, emailing the shelter is the best way to proceed, as holds must be submitted in writing—calling is not advised to keep the process clear. Using Mia’s seven-digit animal ID helps the shelter locate her record quickly. When adopting or fostering, you gain not just a pet but a loyal family member who enriches your life. Seeing dogs like Mia thrive after rescue inspires many volunteers and adopters alike. Providing her with a loving home would be a tremendous act of kindness, giving her the chance to live out her days surrounded by care and warmth rather than fear. Please consider reaching out to BARC if you want to make a life-saving difference for Mia and support urgent shelter animals in need.
