3 GLUTE TRAINING MYTHS DEBUNKED⬇️

1. DOING DIFFERENT GLUTE WORKOUTS EACH TIME I GO TO THE GYM WILL “SHOCK” MY GLUTES AND GROW THEM:

I used to do any exercise that I felt like doing for my glutes each time I went to the gym, thinking that the variation in exercises for each time I went to the gym will “shock” my muscles and grow them, but in reality it did not grow my glutes at all and I was wasting so much time.

THE TRUTH ✅: Follow a structured glute program for at least 4 weeks and be CONSISTENT for glute growth.

2. THE MORE YOU TRAIN YOUR GLUTES, THE MORE GROWTH YOU WILL SEE:

I used to believe that I needed to be training my glutes on the daily to see serious growth, but it resulted in me overworking my glutes and seeing minimal to no growth as a result.

THE TRUTH ✅: Training your glutes 2-3x per week is most optimal for glute growth.

3. YOU NEED 7+ EXERCISES FOR A GOOD GLUTE WORKOUT:

I used to do like 7+ exercises and think that my glutes would look massive as a result, but all I got was a fatigued body, time lost for doing more exercises than needed, and no glute growth.

THE TRUTH ✅: Doing 4-6 glute exercises in a workout is perfect.

... Read moreOkay, so I've already shared the three biggest glute training myths that held me back, but let me dive a little deeper into why those truths are so crucial, especially if you're just starting out or feeling frustrated like I once was. It's not just about knowing the myth; it's about understanding the science behind the growth! Building a Glute Program That Actually Works: Beyond Just 'Structured' When I finally stopped blindly trying new exercises every week, I started seeing real change. The "truth" is, a structured program isn't just a fancy term; it's your roadmap to progressive overload. This means consistently challenging your muscles over time – lifting slightly heavier, doing more reps, or improving your form. My mistake was thinking variety was key, but consistency in challenging the same movements is what makes muscles adapt and grow. For beginners, this might mean picking 3-4 staple exercises (think squats, hip thrusts, RDLs) and focusing on mastering them and gradually increasing the weight or reps each week. I started tracking my lifts in a simple journal, and that alone was a game-changer. No more guessing if I was making progress! The Power of Rest: Why Less is Often More for Glute Growth Believing I needed to train my glutes daily was another huge pitfall. My body was constantly fatigued, and I never gave my muscles a chance to recover and rebuild. What I learned is that muscle growth (hypertrophy) actually happens *during rest*, not during the workout itself! Training 2-3 times a week allows for adequate recovery between sessions. This doesn't mean being lazy; it means smart training. On rest days, you can focus on active recovery like walking or stretching, or train other muscle groups. Listen to your body – if your glutes are still super sore from two days ago, pushing them again might be counterproductive. I noticed a massive difference in my energy levels and strength when I finally embraced proper recovery. Quality Over Quantity: Making Every Rep Count Finally, the myth that more exercises equal more growth. I used to burn myself out doing 7+ exercises, thinking I was being super productive. All I got was exhaustion and poor form! The "truth" is focusing on 4-6 effective exercises with proper form and intensity is far superior. Think compound movements that hit the glutes hard, followed by a few isolation exercises. For example, a workout could be: Warm-up Heavy Compound (e.g., Barbell Hip Thrusts or Squats) - 3-4 sets Accessory Compound (e.g., RDLs or Lunges) - 3 sets Isolation (e.g., Cable Kickbacks or Glute Bridges) - 3 sets Finisher (e.g., Banded Abductions) - 2-3 sets This structure allows you to put maximum effort into each chosen movement without spreading yourself too thin. My biggest takeaway as a beginner was that intensity and proper execution trump a long list of exercises every single time. Don't be afraid to keep it simple and focus on feeling that glute activation! These are the lessons I wish I knew when I first started my glute journey, and I hope they help you too!
