God’s presence pt. 2
I used to think that 'walking in the spirit' meant constantly feeling an overwhelming sense of emotion or having dramatic spiritual experiences. It left me often asking, 'why can't I see or feel the Lord?' especially when life felt mundane or challenging. But through my own journey, I’ve learned it’s less about intense feelings and more about a profound, consistent awareness of God's Presence in the everyday. One of the biggest shifts for me was realizing the truth mentioned in the images: God is 'still there,' even when I don't perceive Him immediately. It's about 'changing our perspective on how we see things.' Instead of waiting for God to appear in a grand, distant way, I started looking for Him in the small, intimate moments. This isn't about conjuring up feelings, but about intentionally acknowledging His promise that Christ left His throne to 'come in to be with us and to walk with us and to speak to us.' So, what does 'walking in the spirit' look like practically for me? It starts with intentionality. Each morning, I try to pause and invite the Holy Spirit to guide my day. It's a simple prayer, acknowledging that I want to be led by Him. Throughout the day, I practice mindfulness, not just about my tasks, but about my spirit. Is there a gentle nudge towards kindness? A sudden thought to pray for someone? These aren't always booming voices, but often quiet promptings – His way of 'speaking to us.' Another key aspect is recognizing that God isn't a 'distant deity' but deeply involved. This means seeing challenges not just as obstacles, but as opportunities for Him to demonstrate His presence and power. When I encounter frustration, I try to ask, 'What is the Spirit teaching me here?' or 'How can I respond in a way that honors Him?' It’s about being responsive to His leading, even when it's uncomfortable. Finally, walking in the spirit for me has become about consistent, small acts of obedience and faith. It’s about aligning my actions and thoughts with His character, rather than just my own desires. It’s not about perfection, but about a continuous return to Him, trusting that even when I stumble, His Presence is unwavering, and He is continually guiding me to walk more closely with Him. This journey has brought so much peace, knowing that I'm never truly alone, and His Spirit is my constant companion.
