bouillon powder

3/24 Edited to

Making your own bouillon powder at home is a great way to control the ingredients and avoid preservatives that are often found in store-bought versions. The recipe provided includes a variety of herbs and spices such as turmeric, thyme, basil, and garlic powder, which not only add robust flavor but also offer several health benefits. For instance, turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, while garlic powder can boost the immune system. When preparing this bouillon powder, blending the ingredients until very fine ensures that the mix dissolves well in liquids, creating a smooth and rich base for soups or sauces. I like to customize mine by adjusting the salt content based on the dish I’m preparing and sometimes adding a pinch of chili powder for a subtle heat. Storing the powder in an airtight jar is crucial to maintain its freshness and potency. Keeping it in a cool, dark place helps extend its shelf life up to 6 months, making it a convenient staple for quick meal preparation. Incorporating nutritional yeast in the mix not only adds a cheesy, umami flavor but also provides B-vitamins and protein, which is especially beneficial for vegan and vegetarian diets. This homemade bouillon powder is versatile and can be used not just for soups but also to season rice, vegetables, or marinades, enhancing the overall taste of your meals naturally and healthily.
