Forced into Glory
Forced into Glory: Abraham Lincoln's White Dream is a 2000 book by historian Lerone Bennett Jr.
Bennett challenges the traditional view of Abraham Lincoln as the "Great Emancipator," arguing he was a racist who did not genuinely support abolition but was forced to act by necessity, and that his policies ultimately led to the injustices of the Jim Crow era. The book claims Lincoln supported the Fugitive Slave Laws, was friends with slave owners, and envisioned a white nation, making his legacy a "white dream" rather than a true liberation for Black people.
