A few months ago, I visited a church in Texas that I'd been following online for years. Great service. Great people. Great message.
Before I left, they handed me one of those simple rubber bracelets. Nothing fancy. No flashing lights. No angel feathers attached to it. Just a bracelet.
I've worn it almost every day since then because it reminds me of a truth that took me entirely too long to learn:
Sometimes God answers our prayers through the combined power of common sense, unintended clues, and wisdom.
That's called discernment.
See, most of us are waiting for God to part the Red Sea, send a prophet, write the answer across the sky, or show up in a burning bush like He did for Moses. Meanwhile, God is saying, "I already told you."
The problem is we don't always like the answer.
If a person tells you they don't want a relationship...
Then proceeds to not call, not text, not make time, and not prioritize you...
And somehow your brain says, "Maybe they're just busy."
Busy for six months? 🤔😂
If someone consistently lies, breaks promises, creates drama, and shows no fruit of repentance, your brain says, "Maybe I just need to be patient."
No, beloved. Sometimes patience isn't the lesson. Sometimes discernment is.
The brain loves filling in blanks. It's basically a Hollywood screenwriter working overtime, creating explanations that don't exist. The problem is it's pulling information from your own experiences, fears, hopes, social media, and desires.
And your heart? Your heart will often vote for what feels good instead of what's true.
That's why wisdom matters.
When someone consistently shows you who they are... BELIEVE THEM.
Choose your friends wisely.
Not who you hope they'll become.
Not who they could be.
Not who they were five years ago.
Who they are right now.
I've learned that God often answers prayers by allowing people to reveal themselves. No lightning bolts. No angel choir. No burning bush.
Just patterns.
Just fruit.
Just truth.
And if we're paying attention, that little rubber bracelet reminds me every day:
Sometimes the miracle isn't God changing the situation.
Sometimes the miracle is God helping you finally see it. 🙏🏾😂
