I'm already tired and I haven't done NOTHING yet. 😂
A friend suggested I try a half marathon, and for reasons known only to God, my dumb self said, "Sure." 🤦🏾♂️
Now everybody I see looks like they star in an action movie. They got fancy running watches, matching outfits, energy gels, and shoes that probably cost more than my first car. Meanwhile, I don't even know what running shoes are supposed to do or if I actually need them.
The funny part is I've barely started and already need a nap. 🤣
But maybe this is one of those faith walks... except it's a faith run. The Bible says we should run the race set before us with endurance (Hebrews 12:1). So I'm trusting God, stretching these aging knees, and trying not to meet Jesus at Mile 3.
Pray for me. I'm out here preparing for a half marathon while my body is preparing a formal complaint. 😂🏃🏾♂️🙏

... Read moreStarting a half marathon training journey can be both exhilarating and daunting, especially when you’re new to the sport like I am. One thing I quickly realized is that running isn’t just about putting one foot in front of the other; it involves gear, nutrition, and mindset. For instance, the runners I see seem to have it all — fancy GPS watches to track their pace, energy gels that promise instant fuel, and shoes designed for every terrain. At first, I thought shoes were just shoes, but research showed me how important proper footwear is to avoid injury and improve comfort. Visiting a specialty running store helped me find shoes suited to my gait and foot type, something I highly recommend for anyone starting out.
Another unexpected aspect is the mental game. While my body protested, sometimes crying out for a nap early into my runs, I found comfort in remembering Hebrews 12:1. It speaks about running the race set before us with endurance, a perfect mantra for both physical and spiritual perseverance. This faith run reminds me to keep going even when my body wants to quit.
Preparation also involves practical steps like warming up, stretching, and gradually increasing mileage to build stamina without overstraining aging joints. Listening to your body is critical; it’s okay to take rest days to heal. My journey’s been filled with laughs, setbacks, and surprising moments of strength.
If you’re thinking of tackling a half marathon or any fitness challenge, embrace the learning curve. Equip yourself with knowledge about gear and nutrition, lean on your support system, and keep a lighthearted spirit. Prayer and faith add a powerful dimension — trusting not just in your physical ability but also in a greater strength that helps push through tough miles.
Remember, it’s not about how fast you go but how faithfully you keep running the race set before you.
