No one prepares you for how hard breastfeeding can be…

8/2 Edited to

... Read moreBreastfeeding can be one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences for a new mother. Many of us hear stories about the joy and bond it creates but are rarely prepared for the difficulties involved. From latching issues to supply concerns, the learning curve is steep. One key tip that helped me immensely was hand expressing some milk before attempting to latch. This softened engorgement and made it easier for my baby to take the nipple properly. Creating a "sandwich" shape with the nipple facing the baby’s lips also improved latch success. Hydration and nutrition play a vital role in maintaining a good milk supply. Drinking an electrolyte-rich drink daily, aiming for about 2 liters of water, and eating enough nourishing food helped keep my supply steady. When I noticed my supply dropping or my breasts no longer felt engorged, I reminded myself this was a natural regulation process rather than a failure. During times when supply was low, I committed to pumping every 90 minutes for about 10 minutes, which gradually rebuilt my production. Allowing my baby to feed on demand, even when it felt frequent due to cluster feeding, helped establish their feeding rhythm and supported supply regulation. Most importantly, I learned that "fed is best." Choosing formula or supplementing doesn’t diminish your efforts or your bond with your baby. The most crucial aspect is your baby's health and well-being, and there are many excellent formulas available if breastfeeding becomes too difficult. This journey is deeply personal and unique to each mother and baby pair. World Breastfeeding Week reminds us to support and uplift all feeding choices and to share these honest experiences to better prepare and encourage new moms on their path.

HOW TO BOOST SUPPLY
When my milk first came in, I was an oversupplier. My son is now 6mo and won’t nurse anymore so I have to exclusively pump. About a week ago my supply dropped significantly and I had to work so hard to bring it back up. I work very closely with a lactation consultant/occupational therapist. Here’s

As someone who has struggled with infertility and suffered a miscarriage, seeing this drastic leap in two weeks has this soon to be mamma emotional and ecstatic all at once. Little gummy bear was the most active baby the nurse said she’d seen at this week. Keep on wiggling baby. 💖 #pregnancy
