... Read moreWow, it still feels surreal to say I'm officially a part of the Class of 2024! Just looking at these graduation photos, I'm flooded with so many emotions. It feels like yesterday I was starting out, full of nerves and excitement for what college held. Now, here I am, cap and gown on, ready to step into the next chapter.
This journey hasn't always been easy, and I know many of my fellow 2024 graduates can relate. There were late-night study sessions, challenging exams, moments of self-doubt, and unexpected hurdles. But through it all, there was also incredible growth, amazing friendships, and memories that I'll cherish forever. Each step, every challenge, has shaped me into the person I am today, and standing here, celebrating this milestone, makes every single moment worth it.
One of the things I was most excited about for my graduation ensemble was incorporating elements that truly represent me. My stole, draped over my gown, proudly declares 'CLASS OF 2024' alongside 'BLACK GIRL MAGIC' in vibrant Pan-African colors. This wasn't just a fashion choice; it was a powerful statement of identity and pride. To me, 'Black Girl Magic' isn't just a phrase; it's a celebration of our resilience, our intelligence, our creativity, and our undeniable strength. To wear that on my graduation day, marking such a significant achievement, felt like honoring all the Black women who came before me and inspiring those who will come after. It’s a reminder of the power and beauty in embracing who you are, especially in moments of great triumph.
And my graduation cap? Oh, that was another personal touch! I spent hours decorating it to reflect my passion and future goals. The phrase 'DON'T READ MINDS. HEAL THEM.' isn't just catchy; it's a core philosophy for me. As I move forward into my career, I'm passionate about mental wellness and helping others navigate their own journeys. This cap serves as a personal mantra, a commitment to focusing on empathy, understanding, and positive impact rather than making assumptions. It’s a message that resonated deeply with me throughout my studies and will continue to guide my path.
For anyone else in the Class of 2024, or even those just starting their college journey, my biggest piece of advice is to savor every moment, good or bad. Lean on your support system, celebrate your small wins, and never lose sight of why you started. The future might seem daunting, but it's also brimming with possibilities. I'm taking a moment to breathe it all in, celebrate this incredible accomplishment, and then get ready to chase those next dreams. Here's to our bright futures, graduates! What's next for you?
