❌ 0/10 ~ This is The Ordinary Balancing and Clarifying Serum. I did NOT finish this! I finished about half the bottle and had to stop using it. It is supposed to help with blemishes and all it did was break me out. It’s meant to be used daily and it wasn’t until I stopped using it completed did my skin actually clear up. I do believe good, effective skincare can be affordable but I’ve hated all but maybe two of their products so far. This is a major pass for me. #the ordinary#productreview#empties#november#didnotfinish

... Read moreMy recent review highlighted my personal struggle with The Ordinary Balancing & Clarifying Serum, but I know skincare is incredibly individual. Many of you might be wondering about this popular product, especially if you're battling oily skin, breakouts, or looking to refine your pores. So, let's dive a little deeper into what this serum is all about and what to consider before trying it yourself.
The Ordinary Balancing & Clarifying Serum is designed with a clear purpose: to help manage skin concerns often associated with oiliness and congestion. It’s formulated to target blemishes, reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, and balance sebum activity. For those with combination to oily skin, the promise of a more balanced, clearer complexion can be incredibly appealing. The idea behind 'balancing' is to normalize skin function, while 'clarifying' refers to its ability to help clear up existing imperfections and prevent new ones.
One notable aspect, which you might notice from the images of the product, is its signature 'dropper bottle' packaging. This design is common for many serums, allowing for precise application. Typically, you'd apply a few drops to your face morning and evening, after cleansing and toning, but before heavier creams. The label, often visible on these bottles, provides clear instructions, sometimes in multiple languages, making it accessible to many users. It’s important to use the dropper hygienically, avoiding direct contact with your skin to prevent contamination.
While my personal journey with this serum led to breakouts, it's crucial to remember that skincare reactions are highly personal. What might irritate one person's skin could be a holy grail for another. Factors like existing skin conditions, other products in your routine, environmental stressors, and even how consistently you use a product can all play a role. Some users rave about its ability to visibly reduce pore size and control shine, finding it an effective and affordable solution for their oily skin and pore refinement goals.
If you’re considering adding this serum to your routine, especially if you have oily or blemish-prone skin and are looking for pore refinement, here are some tips. Firstly, always perform a patch test on a small, inconspicuous area of your skin (like behind your ear or on your inner forearm) for a few days before applying it to your entire face. This helps identify potential sensitivities. Secondly, introduce new products slowly. Don't layer too many new actives at once. Listen to your skin – if you notice persistent irritation, redness, or increased breakouts, it might not be the right fit, just as it wasn't for me. While quality skincare doesn't always have to break the bank, finding what works for your skin is paramount.
Ultimately, 'The Ordinary Balancing & Clarifying Serum' can be a valuable tool for many, but my experience serves as a reminder that results are never guaranteed. It's about combining research with personal trial and error to truly understand what your skin needs to thrive.
