❌0/10 ~ This is the Makeup Forever STEP 1 PRIMER PORE MINIMIZER. I got a sample size and I did NOT finish this! This felt like rubbing sandpaper on my face. I’m not sure if mine was expired, but it felt like someone mixed sand and silicone and grease together and called it a primer. It was rough on my skin and I didn’t like that. I think this is the worst primer I’ve ever used, which I hate because the hydro boost primer is my all time favorite primer! I thought this would’ve been a pore smoothing version of that and I’m so glad I didn’t spend the money on the full size. It pilled and didn’t melt into my skin or blur my pores at all. And it was a pain to take off. #primer#makeupforever#decemberempties#empties#productreview

... Read moreFinding that perfect pore-minimizing primer can feel like a never-ending quest, right? We all dream of that smooth, blurred finish, but sometimes, what promises to be a game-changer turns out to be... well, a total dud. I know the feeling all too well after my recent experience with a certain primer. It got me thinking, why are some pore-minimizing primers so tricky to get right?
One of the biggest issues I've personally encountered, and what others often mention, is the dreaded 'pilling.' You apply your primer, and suddenly it's rolling off your face in little bits, taking your skincare with it. This usually happens when the primer's texture clashes with your moisturizer or foundation, or if you're applying too much. Silicones, often found in these blurring formulas, can be great for smoothing, but if they don't play nice with other ingredients, disaster strikes! I've learned that letting each layer of product fully absorb before applying the next can make a huge difference.
Then there's the texture itself. Some primers feel silky and melt into the skin, creating that perfect canvas. Others, like the one I just reviewed, can feel unexpectedly rough or greasy, almost like applying a thick paste that just sits on top. A good pore minimizer should feel lightweight yet effective, creating a smooth layer without adding an extra film or making your skin feel tight. The desire for that 'PROFESSIONAL PARIS' smooth finish is real, but the reality can be far from 'LISSANTE' (smoothing) if the formula isn't right for you.
So, if you're on the hunt for a primer that truly minimizes pores without all the drama, here are a few things I've picked up along the way. Firstly, always check the ingredient list for common irritants or things you know your skin reacts to. Secondly, consider primers that focus on hydration alongside pore-blurring, similar to the 'hydro boost' type primers that many, including myself, find so effective. These often create a smoother surface without drying out the skin or feeling heavy.
Application techniques are also key! Instead of rubbing, try gently patting your pore-minimizing primer into the areas where you need it most, like your T-zone. Use a small amount, build it up if necessary, and give it a minute or two to set before moving on to your foundation. Sometimes, even if a primer isn't perfect, a different application method can salvage it. And don't forget the importance of a good skincare routine underneath – well-prepped skin is half the battle won!
Lastly, remember that everyone's skin is unique. What works wonders for one person might be a complete flop for another. Don't be afraid to sample products or read tons of reviews (both good and bad!) before committing to a full-size purchase. It's all about trial and error to find your holy grail pore-minimizing primer that truly delivers that flawless, camera-ready complexion.
