There is so much misinformation out there when it comes to nutrition, health, and fitness so I’m starting a series to bring things back to basics. Nutrition and food is something that affects everyone whether they are interested in it or not because we all have to eat! My hope is that whatever food choices you make going forward, you will learn something from this series and be able to make more well informed choices and understand that you can still enjoy all the foods you love ❤️

Macronutrients, key components of our diet, are categorized into three groups: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. **Proteins** are essential for muscle repair, comprising 20 different amino acids, nine of which are essential and must be acquired through food. Rich sources include animal products like meat, milk, yogurt, and plant-based options like tofu and tempeh. **Carbohydrates** serve as the body's preferred energy source, and misconceptions surrounding them often lead to unnecessary dietary restrictions. It's important to note that any food can contribute to weight gain if consumed excessively. Healthy carbohydrate sources include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. **Fats**, while calorie-dense, are vital for various bodily functions, including hormone production and vitamin absorption. Healthy fats can be found in oils, avocados, and nuts, making them a crucial part of a balanced diet. Learning about these macronutrients helps empower individuals to make better food choices while maintaining the enjoyment of their favorite meals. Tailoring your diet to include adequate sources of each macronutrient can ultimately lead to a healthier lifestyle.
