Job that I’ve worked at : Ross Edition

Job tasks: this was in Illinois, I helped open this store, so before it even opened we tagged everything with prices, security tags, shoe sizes, etc. I was the closing shift since I had a second job . Once it opened, I was a cashier, very easy stuff honestly

Likes about the job: meeting new people and also shopping on my break

Dislike about job: holding items for people that would say I’ll be right back and they never return. Also working with really young people, work ethic was different. Also we worked overtime like crazy for the grand opening of the store

Pay: I think I got like $13/hr

Rate: 6/10

... Read moreWorking at Ross offered a unique opportunity to engage in retail during its grand opening phase. Opening a new store involves extensive preparation, from tagging merchandise to ensuring everything is ready for customers. As a closing shift employee, managing the transition from setup to customer service was crucial. The interpersonal aspect of retail became evident, as the role allowed me to meet diverse customers and share my passion for retail shopping. However, challenges like customers not returning for their held items highlighted the unpredictability of retail work. Additionally, my interactions with younger coworkers provided insights into varying work ethics in the industry. The fluctuating schedules and overtime during busy periods certainly demanded resilience. The pay rate of $13/hr reflected common compensation for entry-level retail positions, but the overall job satisfaction stemmed from human connections and the vibrant atmosphere of the store. If you're considering a position at Ross or similar retail establishments, be prepared for a fast-paced environment that can be both rewarding and challenging.
