Cats and catnip
I’ve always wondered if fresh catnip really makes a difference for my cats compared to dried versions. From what I’ve observed, fresh catnip definitely excites my cats more—they roll around, rub their faces, and become playful right away. One trick I've found helpful is using a dehydrator to preserve fresh catnip. This way, I keep its aroma and potency intact, which dried store-bought catnip sometimes lacks. When you have fresh catnip, it’s good to check that the leaves don’t have any pesticides or harmful chemicals. For my cats, I prefer growing my own catnip indoors or sourcing certified organic leaves to keep it as natural as possible. I read that fresh catnip contains nepetalactone, the compound cats respond to, and it tends to be stronger in fresh leaves. My cats definitely show more interest in fresh catnip and even seem calmer after their playful episodes. Remember to let your cats enjoy catnip in moderation to avoid overstimulation. Offering fresh catnip occasionally feels like a special treat, keeping their scent memory fresh and enriching their environment with safe, natural entertainment.
