Would this cause you to panic?
Slight panic when seeing Cosmo like this...Yes
Video out to record in case you might need to show a vet....Definitely yes. In case others issues come up and this incident doesn't repeat.
We have had cats sleep deeply before, Nash was known for turning into jello on our laps.
But this one was a first to have one sleeping that deeply with only the inner eyelids closed and not the outer eyelids. Cosmo has since been up and about and sleeping with one eye open around us now ❤️
As a fellow cat owner, I totally understand the sense of panic when you see your beloved pet sleeping in an unusual way, such as having only the inner eyelids closed while the outer eyelids remain open. This can look concerning, especially if you are not familiar with feline sleep patterns. Cats often have different stages of sleep, and sometimes they enter very deep sleep phases where their eyes don’t fully close. From my personal experience, capturing a video of such moments is a great idea. It helps you keep a record if any health issues arise, allowing you to show the clip to your vet to aid diagnosis. Also, it can bring you peace of mind once you realize this might be a harmless sleeping behavior. For example, my cat also occasionally sleeps with one eye slightly open, which initially worried me, but after consulting my vet, I learned it can be quite normal. Another thing to consider is monitoring your cat’s overall behavior following such sleep episodes. Are they active? Eating well? Responsive? In the shared story, Cosmo was up and about and sleeping peacefully afterward, which is reassuring. Cats like Nash, who are known for deeply relaxed sleeps, can sometimes appear limp or jelly-like in posture. This usually isn’t a cause for concern unless accompanied by other symptoms like lethargy or loss of appetite. In summary, while unusual sleep postures can be alarming at first glance, they often reflect a deep, relaxed sleep or a quirky feline habit. Always keep an eye on your pet’s general health and don’t hesitate to seek veterinary advice if anything seems off. Recording these behaviors can be extremely helpful for future reference and ensuring your cat’s wellbeing.
