One key sign is emotionally removing yourself from the past relationship loop, which means no longer replaying memories or hoping for a future together. Sometimes people inadvertently hold a foot in the door by staying in vague contact or reacting impulsively to their ex’s social media. This can delay healing and keep emotional wounds open. A genuine move-on includes closing the chapter mentally and emotionally, not just practically. It helps to set clear boundaries with your ex—such as unfollowing on social media or avoiding conversations that stir up old feelings. Acknowledge that maybe someday a future could exist, but focus on the present where your well-being comes first. Not everyone moves on at the same pace. For some, staying 'close' with an ex is a way to hold on to hope, but ultimately, readiness to let go is crucial for personal growth. I’ve found journaling my feelings and reflecting on the lessons learned to be therapeutic and empowering. If you’re struggling, remind yourself that moving on is a process. Celebrate small victories like no longer checking their online stories or not reacting emotionally when they reach out by accident. These moments are proof you’re freeing yourself. Above all, moving on is about reclaiming your emotional freedom, embracing change, and building a fulfilling life independent of your past relationship.
