Here’s how I would spend 1 full week in Guatemala🇬🇹
This was by far one of my favourite trips! Hotels were so luxurious for such affordable prices, food was only $5-$10 a meal, and the people were so so kind! We also felt very safe during our trip to Antigua and Lake Atitlan!❤️

Spending a full week in Guatemala offers a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation without breaking the bank. From my experience, starting in Antigua is essential — this charming colonial town is rich with colorful streets, vibrant markets, and delicious local eateries where meals typically cost between $5 to $10. Don't miss the Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint, which provides a stunning lookout over the city and surrounding volcanoes. One of the highlights of the trip is the Acatenango overnight hike. It’s challenging but incredibly rewarding, offering mesmerizing views of the volcano’s nightly eruptions. Packing proper hiking gear and preparing physically in advance made the experience more enjoyable and safe. After recovering with a rest day in Antigua, heading towards Lake Atitlan is a must. The shuttle ride to Panajachel is scenic and sets the tone for a peaceful lakeside atmosphere. Exploring the villages around Lake Atitlan, such as San Pedro and Santiago Atitlan, allowed me to experience authentic Mayan culture and handicrafts. Throughout the trip, I felt safe exploring both towns and rural areas, which is sometimes a concern for travelers. The locals were extremely welcoming and kind, which contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the trip. Additionally, accommodation options ranged from affordable hostels to luxurious hotels, all offering great value. Overall, this itinerary is ideal for travelers looking for a mix of outdoor activities, cultural immersion, and relaxation while staying on a reasonable budget. Planning ahead for transportation and guided tours, especially for activities like volcano hikes, can enhance the experience and ensure safety. Guatemala combines natural beauty, warm hospitality, and affordability—a perfect destination for memorable travel.
