Working on dropball! Do you wanna make sure you don’t step too far over that powerline and trying to stay tall and forward not crunched and forward! #PitchingTips #pitchingdrills #SoftballPitcher #PitchingCoach
When working on the dropball, one of the most crucial aspects to focus on is maintaining a straight path to your target without crossing over your powerline. This means controlling your stride so that you don't overreach or step too far forward, which can disrupt both your balance and accuracy. From my experience, staying tall and keeping your body upright rather than bent or crunched forward greatly enhances control over your pitch. It’s about finding that fine line: leaning forward enough to generate momentum and power, but not so much that you lose your form or open up your throwing mechanics prematurely. Additionally, avoid getting too open with your shoulders and hips during the delivery. Staying closed as you release the ball helps maintain deception and creates better downward angle for your dropball. A crossed-over step can cause you to lose this tight delivery and reduce pitch effectiveness. I found that practicing with a mirror or recording yourself helps identify when you start crossing over. Focus on your stride length and direction—aim straight towards your target without deviating sideways. This will keep your body aligned properly and maximize pitch consistency. Incorporating drills that emphasize forward control and tall posture, like balance holds and slow-motion pitching, can ingrain proper mechanics. These drills reinforce muscle memory and make it easier to replicate the right motion under game pressure. By combining awareness of your body position, intentional stride control, and consistent practice of these drills, you can significantly improve your dropball delivery. The goal is a smooth, controlled pitch that stays true to the target trajectory without sacrificing velocity or accuracy.
