They love sending their sons to school 😂❤️
Okay, fellow mamas, let's talk about those real chilly school mornings! You know the ones – where it feels like a battle just to get everyone out the door, let alone dressed warmly enough. I’ve been there, shivering through drop-off, wondering if my little ones are cozy enough, and dreading the inevitable winter sniffles. But over the years, I’ve picked up a few tricks that have genuinely made a difference in our household, turning those 'brrr!' moments into something a little more manageable, and dare I say, even enjoyable! First up, layering is your best friend. Seriously. A good base layer (think thermal undershirts or even just a long-sleeve tee), then a sweater or hoodie, and finally a weather-appropriate coat. Don't forget hats, gloves or mittens, and a scarf. I always pack an extra pair of gloves in their backpack because, let's be honest, one always goes missing! For shoes, waterproof boots are a lifesaver if there’s any chance of snow or slush. My boys used to complain, but now they know the drill, and it saves us from cold feet and grumpy moods later. Next, nutritious food for immunity. It’s not just about staying warm on the outside; boosting their defenses from within is crucial, especially when they're exposed to all those school germs. I try to pack lunches rich in Vitamin C (citrus fruits, bell peppers), and sneaking in some ginger or turmeric into smoothies or soups. Speaking of soups, my absolute favorite hack for cold weather is a warm lunch in a thermos! There’s nothing like a hot bowl of chicken noodle soup or even leftover pasta to warm them up from the inside out during a cold school day. It’s a definite comfort-food win, and they always come home raving about it. This brings me to my special 'FRiYAY'S FOOD' tradition! On Fridays, I like to make something a little extra special for their lunch, especially if it’s been a long, chilly week. Sometimes it’s homemade pizza rolls kept warm in a thermos, or a hearty chili. Other times, it's a fun bento box with themed sandwiches and a warm fruit compote. The key is to make it something they look forward to, a little pick-me-up that says, 'You made it through the week!' It helps brighten their day and gives them something warm and comforting. Finally, let's talk about beating those school-borne colds. Hand hygiene is paramount. We practice thorough handwashing before and after school, before meals, and after using the restroom. I also keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer attached to their backpacks for quick use. And when a cold does strike (because let's face it, it's almost inevitable!), having a cozy sick-day routine ready helps. Plenty of fluids, rest, and a warm bath can do wonders. Don't push them to go to school if they're genuinely unwell; a few days at home can prevent a longer illness and protect their classmates. Navigating school during colder months can be tough, but with a little planning and a lot of love, we can make it a positive experience for our kids (and ourselves!).
