How I Air Dry My Hair To Avoid Damage ✨

I rarely blow dry my hair because my hair is prone to breakage and split ends! Here is the air dry routine that I use to keep my hair soft and shiny:

• As soon as I get out of the shower, I put my hair in a towel and get it to 50% dry (not dripping wet)

• I apply leave-in conditioner all over my hair, focusing on my mid section and ends!

• After I apply the leave-on conditioner, I brush the hair at my scalp back using a wet brush. I brush it back so that it dries with more volume!

• The last step I do is I scrunch mousse onto my ends and scrunch the excess on the rest of my waves!

• After this, I let my hair dry all the way and brush it again after it dries!

... Read moreMy journey to healthy, happy hair led me to embrace air drying, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer! If you're like me and want to avoid heat damage while still achieving gorgeous, soft, and shiny hair with volume, you're in the right place. While my core routine works wonders, I've picked up a few extra tips along the way to tackle common concerns like frizz, lack of volume, and even how to make the process a bit faster. First off, let's talk about speeding up the drying process without heat. After I get out of the shower, I gently squeeze the excess water from my hair. Instead of rubbing vigorously with a regular towel (which can cause frizz and breakage!), I swear by using a microfiber towel or even an old cotton t-shirt. This absorbs water much more efficiently without roughing up the cuticles. I'll wrap my hair in it for about 10-15 minutes to get it to that 50% dry stage, which is crucial for products to absorb properly and for faster air drying. This simple switch truly helps my hair get dry without a hair dryer faster than ever! Next, frizz control is a big one for air drying. Beyond my trusty leave-in conditioner (I really focus on spraying it from mid-section to ends and gently rubbing it in) and mousse, I've found that the way I apply products makes a huge difference. After applying my leave-in, I use the 'praying hands' method to smooth it down my hair, then gently scrunch the ends upwards. For the mousse, I apply it to my ends and then scrunch it through my hair, focusing on defining my natural waves. The key is to avoid touching your hair too much while it’s drying. The less you manipulate it, the less frizz you'll have. Seriously, hands off until it's 100% dry! For those of us aiming for more volume, especially around the roots, my trick of brushing my scalp back with a wet brush is fantastic. But to really amp it up, I sometimes use root clips. Once I've applied my products and brushed my hair back, I'll strategically place some small duckbill clips at the roots, lifting them up. This helps the roots dry with a natural lift, giving me that extra boost of volume without any heat. Once my hair is fully dry, I carefully remove them. And for my curly and wavy hair friends, these air drying tips are for all curl types! If you have curlier hair, you might want to try 'plopping' with a t-shirt for about 20 minutes after applying your products. This helps define your curls and absorbs more water. After plopping, you can gently finger dry by twirling sections around your finger or just let it hang. A light gel can be added after your leave-in and mousse for extra hold and frizz protection. Remember, the goal is to get your hair dry without damaging it, and these methods are perfect for achieving soft, defined curls without heat. By incorporating these small tweaks into my routine, I've managed to keep my hair healthy, shiny, and full of life, all without relying on heat tools. My hair is dry without the heat damage, and yours can be too!
