I stopped being anxious because of this

used to think being scared all the time meant something was wrong with me. it didn't. i was just missing a few frames.

a friend who's a counselor told me to stop trying to think my way out of a spiral and let my body come down first.

so now when something feels huge, i get it out, let the urgency drop, and come back to it grounded instead of spiraling. the thing that felt life-ending at midnight is usually a footnote by friday.

the surprise was how much of my "i'm behind" feeling was just my body stuck on high alert.

need the rituals and apps that actually got me grounded? comment "GROUNDED" below and look at my profile for more.

... Read moreFrom personal experience, I found that anxiety often feels like being trapped in a never-ending loop of worry and fear, especially when your mind races ahead to worst-case scenarios. What helped me the most was learning to pause and listen to my body's signals instead of trying to control every anxious thought. A counselor once advised me to stop battling anxiety solely with logic and instead allow my nervous system to calm down first. This approach was a game-changer. One useful technique I embraced is journaling or using apps designed to get feelings out immediately. By expressing my emotions without judgment, I allowed the intensity of panic to naturally decline. This helped me see that some fears, which felt overwhelming late at night, were often much smaller issues by the next day. It’s like momentary panic clouds clearing to reveal clearer skies. Another insight was realizing how much of my stress was my body stuck on high alert. Chronic anxiety can literally keep your nervous system in fight-or-flight mode, making even everyday tasks seem daunting. Incorporating grounding rituals such as deep breathing, mindfulness meditation, and physical movement has been essential in shifting my nervous system to a calmer state. I also learned that shifting perspective helps immensely. Things that seem critical in the moment—like missed deadlines or social anxieties—are often just stepping stones rather than roadblocks. Adopting a mindset that accepts uncertainty and lets go of controlling every detail gave me freedom. It reminded me that good things happen when we take action even before feeling ready. Lastly, the concept that "side quests are actually the plot" deeply resonated with me. Life isn’t just about achieving big goals but also about enjoying the hobbies, spontaneous adventures, and creative projects that nurture us. These side adventures nourish the soul and create a balanced life rhythm that reduces anxiety’s grip. If you're struggling with similar feelings of being overwhelmed or stuck on high alert, I highly recommend exploring grounding techniques and apps that help you process emotions as they arise. Sharing your experience or simply commenting "GROUNDED" can be a first step toward connecting with others who understand and have found relief.
