My college story 🫶(I learned so much about life)

Vulnerability

🤍 My Story: I moved out of 18 and wanted to pursue Pharmacy as my career mostly because my family had told me that was the best option for me and then I’d be great at it. If I could go back and tell myself something it would be that just because your family wants you to do something does not mean it’s the correct decision for you. I changed my major five times and now I have a bachelors in a field that allowed me to go to grad school for something I truly love and enjoy doing.

🤍 How I Felt: I felt so lost at many points in my journey, but being able to learn who I am and find my own voice has made me the strongest version of myself I’ve ever met. If 18-year-old me met 23-year-old me today she would be intimidated I think, but in the most amazed, wow you truly are a strong woman who has the highest confidence and self-worth. It took so many long nights, a 22 credit hour semester, tears, juggling multiple jobs, and so much more. I honestly don’t know if you could pay me to relive those years, but I wouldn’t change the journey because it made me who I am.

🤍 My Takeaways: My first key takeaway would be that you have to learn how to stand up for yourself and what to advocate and who you need to talk with to get something done. Unfortunately, many times I ran into situations where people would do the bare minimum of their job and it wouldn’t be the best decision for me and my life. My second key takeaway would be to learn how to ask for help. I learned that asking for help doesn’t show weakness. It actually shows strength. My last key Takeaway would be that you need to figure out what your goals are and why you want to pursue them and who you’re doing it for. Once you have your goals and they’re actually your goals not your friends, families boyfriends goals you’ll learn how to be authentic to yourself. Writing down your goals and why you want to achieve them and how you’re going to make daily steps to achieve your goal. I think you need a daily habit that allows you to write down all of your goals. Your main wins for the day and having a this is exactly what I need to achieve number one goal.

... Read moreStarting college at 18 and moving out on your own is a significant life transition that often comes with challenges and self-doubt. Many students initially choose majors based on family expectations rather than their own passions, which can lead to feelings of being lost or uncertain. It's important to realize that changing your major, even multiple times, is a natural part of the journey toward finding what truly inspires you. Advocating for yourself is a critical skill during your college years. Navigating university administration, professors, and advisors requires clear communication and persistence. Don’t hesitate to seek guidance on academic policies or career advice—this proactive approach often leads to better outcomes. Equally vital is the ability to ask for help. Contrary to common belief, requesting support is a strength that fosters growth. Whether it's emotional encouragement, tutoring, or career counseling, utilizing available resources can significantly improve your college experience and personal development. Goal setting plays a foundational role in staying focused and motivated. Writing down your goals daily, reflecting on your progress, and aligning your ambitions with your authentic desires helps ensure that you pursue what truly matters to you—not just what others expect. Developing a daily habit of recording your main wins and outlining actionable steps can accelerate progress and boost confidence. The OCR content highlights the emotional journey from a struggling freshman to a confident graduate student. The author embraces vulnerability as part of their experience, illustrating how resilience, self-worth, and authenticity were cultivated through long nights and personal challenges. This narrative encourages others to see their college years as a valuable, transformative period despite difficulties. Ultimately, every college journey is unique. Embracing change, leaning on support networks, and clarifying your goals can help you evolve into a stronger, more self-assured individual ready to pursue a fulfilling career and life path.
