Starting a YouTube channel has never been easier! Follow my guide here and my other YouTube related posts to help you get started 💫
Step One | Editing: Find yourself a solid editing software that suits your skill level. For absolute beginners I recommend iMovie and CapCut. For those who are more experienced (and have some money to spare) go for Premier Pro! Editing is the most crucial part of any video. It can easily make or break your channel! I recommend one of my favorite editors in this post. His name is Finzar and taught me most everything I know!
Step Two | Thumbnails: These are also extremely important!! Make sure your thumbnails aren’t too complicated and are easy to understand while also sticking out from the others. If you include text make sure it doesn’t get lost in the background. Viewers should be able to know what your video is about solely from the thumbnail.
Step Three | Upload Basics: These include title, upload times, description, and your brand! Make your title stick out and make it match the thumbnail. It’s important to showcase your “brand” or identity through your thumbnails. This way viewers will recognize you and keep coming back! Upload consistently whether it’s once a week, everyday, or once a month! Consistency is a key factor of growing on YouTube. Also make sure you upload at times relevant to your audience! Make your description a summary or your video. Include as many details and keywords as possible!
I hope this guide will help you on your journey! I wish you all luck and so much success in your content creation career! I’m always here if you have questions!

... Read moreHey fellow content creators! So you’ve got the basics down for editing, thumbnails, and uploads – amazing! But let me tell you, there’s so much more to starting a successful YouTube channel that I've learned along the way. When I first started, I wish someone had told me these things to really kickstart my journey.
First off, let's talk about finding your niche. This was a game-changer for me. Instead of just making random videos, think about what you're truly passionate about. What could you talk about for hours? What problem can you solve for others? For example, if you love gaming, narrow it down – is it retro games, speedruns, or indie game reviews? This clarity helps you connect with the right audience and keeps you motivated. Remember, as the image in my guide highlights, focusing on your passion for content creation is way more important than just chasing money or fame right from the start.
Next, don't stress about expensive gear! Seriously. When I began, I thought I needed a fancy DSLR camera and a professional studio. Turns out, your smartphone is a powerful tool. I’ve seen incredible videos shot entirely on a phone, especially when paired with mobile editors like CapCut, which I mentioned earlier, or even just decent natural lighting. A simple tripod and a cheap external microphone can dramatically improve your audio quality, which is often more crucial than video quality for viewer retention. You can always upgrade later as your channel grows!
Once you have your content idea and basic setup, it’s time to brand your channel properly. Beyond just your video content, your channel's overall appearance matters. Think about your channel banner and profile picture – these are like your storefront! Use free tools like Canva (which is also great for thumbnails as mentioned in my earlier tips) or Picsart to create a consistent and appealing look. Also, don't forget your 'About' section; it’s a perfect place to tell potential subscribers what your channel is all about and what kind of content they can expect. This helps new viewers decide if your channel is right for them.
Finally, getting your videos seen goes beyond just hitting 'upload'. Once your video is live, share it! I always post links on my social media, tell my friends, and even sometimes share snippets on platforms like TikTok or Instagram Stories. Engaging with comments is also super important – it builds a community around your brand. And don't forget to dive into YouTube Analytics. It might seem daunting at first, but understanding who's watching your videos, for how long, and where they're coming from can give you invaluable insights to improve your content and strategy for future videos. It's all about continuously learning and adapting, just like when I learned editing tricks from Finzar's tutorials. Keep creating, keep learning, and most importantly, have fun with it!
