The Will Of The Many 🏛️Review & Quotes

There are books that will stay with you this year, and there are those that will stay with you for a lifetime.

This story is a lifetime book for me.

Three weeks of my life. I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. Not even halfway across the world because this book literally came with me on a trip and kept me company on two separate eleven hour flights. I picked this up during the summer which is my slowest reading season. It was so hard to find time for this incredible story but when I was in it, I was IN. And by the time I got to the end stretch there was no will and no way I could put it down.

Im going to throw this out there and say I wish the prologue was added in the beginning. I totally understand the decision for the sake of pacing, and it ultimately became a bonus feature. But I like to be in agony and emotionally attached straight away. It would have helped me connect with the MMC immediately. I did struggle to do so from the beginning but I kept busy with world build and politics until we arrived at the glorious Catenan Academy.

This school ! The description sounded nothing short of epic, eerie, mysterious, and shady. The enemies, the soft romantic moments, and the unlikely friendships made for an exciting turn up of pace and showed a side of the MMC that I was craving to discover. I didn’t know who to trust and when I found out what was real it ended with such heartache I couldn’t help but shed tears.

My mind is still processes the ending. I noticed my body language being curled up in the corner of my reading chair but I could not put my poor wilted paperback copy down. Book two isn’t so far away and Im looking to the horizon for the very day it is in my hands.

... Read moreAfter diving deep into 'The Will of the Many,' I can totally see why so many of you are curious about characters like Diago and Estevan! For me, they truly are the heart of what makes this book a 'lifetime read.' The author, James Islington, has a way of crafting individuals that feel incredibly real, making their struggles and triumphs resonate long after you've turned the final page. Let's talk about Diago first. He's such a complex character, isn't he? From the moment we meet him, you can sense there's so much beneath the surface. His journey through the cutthroat world of the Catenan Academy, navigating its eerie and mysterious halls, truly tests his resolve. The struggles he faces, the sacrifices he has to make – they’re all incredibly well-fleshed out. I kept thinking about that quote from the book, 'CHAIN YOUR ANGER IN THE DARK, MY MOTHER USED TO tell me, and it will only thrive.' It perfectly encapsulates the internal battles Diago often grapples with, trying to control his emotions while simultaneously using every situation to his advantage, as another compelling quote highlights: 'merit, obstacles, and using situations to one's advantage.' His determination to prove himself, especially when faced with the challenges of Class Six, is so compelling. You just can't help but root for him, even when he makes questionable choices, driven by his own sense of honor and a desire to avenge loss that's deeply felt. Then there's Estevan. What a pivotal character! He often embodies the themes of responsibility and the weight of power, making you ponder what a father's voice and expectations truly mean. His interactions, especially with Diago, add so many layers to the political intrigue and the unfolding mystery. Their dynamic is something I absolutely loved exploring. It’s not just about grand battles; it’s about the subtle power plays and alliances formed within the Catenan Academy walls. The book constantly makes you question who to trust, and Estevan is often at the center of that uncertainty, making his character arc incredibly engaging and impactful as he grapples with the idea of 'being monsters and what they make us.' And for those wondering about Kenna James, while the specific query about 'teeth' is a bit unique, her presence, even if sometimes in the background, is quite striking. She represents another facet of the academy's competitive environment, where every student is vying for attention and power. The cunning and wit displayed by characters like Kenna within the Catenan system really drive home the idea that 'if everyone in Class Six is going to try and ignore me, then I'll just have to make them pay attention.' It’s this kind of fierce individuality and ambition that makes the supporting cast so memorable and makes you eager to see what they'll do next. The emotional impact from these characters, especially when they face heartbreaking revelations or moral dilemmas within the vast and detailed Catenan Republic, is what truly sets 'The Will of the Many' apart for me. It’s a journey that leaves you deeply invested, feeling every twist and turn, and yearning for book two almost immediately after finishing!
