I remember seeing all those incredible island designs online and thinking, 'How do they do that?!' It felt like ages before I could finally get my hands on the landscaping tool and start transforming my own island. If you're feeling the same way, don't worry, you're not alone! It's one of the most exciting unlocks in the game. So, let's get straight to it: when do you finally get the landscaping tool in ACNH? You unlock terraforming, which comes with the 'Island Designer' app on your NookPhone, after K.K. Slider performs his first concert on your island. And to get K.K. Slider to visit, you need to achieve a 3-star island rating! This is a major milestone in the game's progression, and trust me, it's incredibly rewarding when you finally get there. Achieving a 3-star rating might sound daunting, but it's totally doable! Here’s what worked for me and what Isabelle looks for: Boost Your Villager Count: Make sure you have at least 8-10 villagers living on your island. They add to the vibrancy and life! Decorate, Decorate, Decorate! This is where your creativity shines. Place furniture outdoors – both Nook Miles items and crafted items. Don't be afraid to spread them out across your island, not just around your plaza. Think benches, lampposts, vending machines, and custom-designed stalls. Plant Plenty of Flowers and Trees: A diverse ecosystem is key! Plant lots of different flower types and colors, and make sure you have a good mix of fruit trees and cedar/hardwood trees. Don't forget to water your flowers daily to encourage new blooms! Add Fencing: Fences are surprisingly important for raising your star rating. Craft some fences and use them to line paths, create yards for your villagers, or section off areas. Even short stretches can help! Improve Infrastructure: Constructing bridges and inclines also contributes significantly to your rating. If you haven't built many yet, prioritize a few to make your island more accessible and visually interesting. Keep Your Island Tidy: Isabelle will definitely penalize you for too many weeds or items dropped on the ground. Make sure to pick up any stray items and pull those pesky weeds regularly to keep your island looking pristine. Once you hit that 3-star rating, Isabelle will announce it, and the next day, K.K. Slider will come to perform! After his concert, Tom Nook will congratulate you and install the 'Island Designer' app on your NookPhone. This is it – your ticket to total island transformation! The app initially comes with the ability to create paths, but you'll want to exchange Nook Miles for the Cliff Construction Permit and the Water-Scaping Permit. These are the tools that let you literally move mountains and create rivers and ponds! It's a game-changer. My personal tip? Don't be afraid to experiment!
