Something about a Loc’d Queen 👑🌹
Starting my loc journey was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my hair! It’s truly transformed how I see myself, and I love experimenting with different dread styles that reflect my mood and personality. If you're looking for inspiration or just starting out, here are some of my go-to looks that I've found work wonders for women with locs. Everyday Effortless Styles: For daily wear, I often opt for styles that are quick, protective, and still look chic. A simple loc ponytail is a classic – whether high, low, or to the side. Sometimes I'll add a cute scrunchie or a decorative hair tie to elevate it. Another favorite is the half-up, half-down look. I just gather the top section of my locs, secure it with a band, and let the rest flow. It’s perfect for showing off my loc length while keeping some hair out of my face. And when I'm really short on time, a messy bun (or should I say, a 'loc bun') on top of my head is my savior! It looks effortlessly cool and keeps my locs secure. Chic & Creative Updos: When I want to feel a bit more sophisticated or for special occasions, updos are my go-to. I love experimenting with a loc crown braid, where I twist or braid sections of my locs around my head like a halo. It feels so regal! Another elegant option is a bun with a twist – instead of a simple bun, I might create two side braids that meet at the back to form a low bun, or even a sculptural, art-deco-inspired bun if I have a bit more time. Don't be afraid to use bobby pins and a little hairspray to secure intricate designs. These styles really highlight the texture and beauty of locs. Playful & Protective Braids/Twists: Sometimes I get bored and want to switch things up without a full style change. Two-strand twists on individual locs can add a lovely ripple effect when taken down, or they can be worn as a style themselves. I also adore fishtail braids or regular three-strand braids using sections of my locs. These are fantastic protective styles, especially for sleeping or working out, and they look incredibly stylish. Plus, they stretch my wash day a bit! Accessorizing Your Locs: Accessories are a game-changer! I absolutely love using silk scarves, headbands, and even delicate hair jewelry to jazz up my loc styles. A colorful silk scarf tied as a turban or wrapped around a bun can instantly transform a simple look into a statement. Hair cuffs and beads can add a beautiful touch to individual locs or sections. Don't underestimate the power of a few well-placed accessories to make your dread styles truly unique. Maintaining Your Styled Locs: Keeping my locs healthy and my styles fresh is key. I always make sure to moisturize my scalp and locs regularly with a light oil or rosewater spray. When sleeping, I use a satin bonnet or pillowcase to prevent frizz and preserve my styles. And for those days between washes, a good dry shampoo or a refreshing spray can work wonders. Remember, your loc journey is unique, so have fun experimenting and finding what makes you feel like a true loc'd queen!
