For Honor: Rewind 92 #forhonor #lawbringer
Hey fellow For Honor warriors! I wanted to dive deeper into one of Lawbringer's most iconic and satisfying moves: the Impaling Riposte. If you're anything like me, you probably love landing this, but it can be tricky to master. I've spent countless hours in the training arena and in real matches perfecting this, and I'm excited to share my go-to strategies. First off, let's talk about the setup. The Impaling Riposte is a parry counter. This means you must successfully parry an incoming attack first. The moment you see that red indicator and hit your heavy attack button for the parry, immediately hit your guard break button (or the corresponding input for your platform) to initiate the Impaling Riposte. Timing is everything here! I remember in one of my earlier 'Rewind' sessions, back around Y5, I'd often mistime it, leading to a whiffed attack or a missed punish. Practice makes perfect, seriously. So, you've landed the parry, and initiated the Impaling Riposte – what now? This move carries your opponent forward a significant distance. Your primary goal here is usually a wall splat. If you can push them into a wall, they become stunned, guaranteeing a top heavy attack for massive damage. This is Lawbringer's bread and butter! I've had so many moments where a well-placed Impaling Riposte into a wall splat completely turned the tide of a duel. Always be aware of your surroundings, scan for walls, and try to position yourself to maximize this advantage. What if there's no wall nearby? Don't panic! The Impaling Riposte itself still deals good damage and resets the neutral. You can follow it up with a light attack or pressure them with your chain. Sometimes, even without a wall, the sheer psychological pressure of being impaled and carried can throw your opponent off their game. I've found that sometimes simply initiating the Riposte, even if it doesn't lead to a wall splat, can bait out a dodge or a panicked attack, which you can then parry again! It's all about mind games. Another crucial aspect I've learned is when to use it. While it's tempting to go for it every parry, sometimes a simple light parry punish (light attack) or heavy parry punish (light attack or a zone attack depending on character) is safer or sets up better for your next move if you're out of stamina or low on health. However, against aggressive opponents, or when you need to create space, the Impaling Riposte is invaluable. It's also fantastic for throwing opponents off ledges for environmental kills – always keep an eye on environmental hazards! Trust me, getting an environmental kill with Lawbringer feels incredibly satisfying. One mistake I see new Lawbringer players make, and something I struggled with initially, is getting tunnel vision for the wall splat. While it's ideal, don't force it if it puts you in a bad position with multiple enemies around. Always assess the situation. Is it a 1v1? Go for the wall! Is it a 1vX? Maybe a simpler, quicker punish is better, or aim to throw them into a teammate's attack. In my experience, dedicating time to practice parrying and immediately following up with the Impaling Riposte motion is key. The muscle memory will come. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be dominating fights and feeling like the true bringer of justice. Happy impaling!
