Thrifted bird feeder/bath

3/15 Edited to

... Read moreI’ve always enjoyed shopping at thrift stores to find unique pieces that can be refreshed and repurposed around my home. One of my favorite projects has been turning thrifted bird feeders and baths into beautiful outdoor features that attract a variety of local birds. When I find a bird feeder or bath that has good bones but might need some TLC, I start by cleaning it thoroughly to remove any dirt or rust. For metal pieces, a light sanding helps ensure paint adheres well. I prefer using non-toxic, weather-resistant paints to brighten up these finds while keeping them safe for wildlife. Beyond painting, I sometimes add decorative touches like mosaic tiles or small stones around the base or edges to give it a personal flair. Placing the feeder or bath in a calm spot with good visibility allows me to enjoy watching the birds that come to visit. Using thrifted items not only saves money but also reduces waste by giving items a second life. Plus, creating these bird-friendly spaces encourages local biodiversity and brings more life and color to my garden. If you’re new to thrift shopping for garden decor, look for solid structures and avoid items with cracks that could worsen with weather exposure. With a bit of creativity and elbow grease, you can turn inexpensive finds into delightful garden showpieces that you and your feathered friends will appreciate.
