The premise of this was "What if night furies had a shorter lifespan?” I think it would make a lot of sense for them to burn bright but sputter out fast. I think it would also suck to have to go through losing your dragon while everyone else's is fine, so no one gets you.

Here, Toothless dies of old age before the third movie. Hiccup ends up meeting the light fury (who is younger) and taming her, while also possibly suffering through the unavoidable trauma that comes with someone passing unexpectedly, or at least sooner than you expected, finding another member of his dragon's species long after he passed away, the guilt that might come with replacing him and the shock that might come with finding another dragon so much like his last one. This is all also happening while he's wearing his best friend's skin. (So I guess toothless and the light fury did get to meet, in a way. Star-crossed lovers!)

Many fans speculate about the implications of such a narrative, considering how it alters the dynamics between dragons and their riders. This idea opens up discussions on themes like loss, growth, and renewal, allowing Hiccup to transition from mourning Toothless to embracing a new bond with the Light Fury.
