Date night, married to a healthcare worker

Married to a healthcare worker means date nights for valentines are earlier because they work. I don’t mind either. I’m also a healthcare worker so I know the deal but for now I’m a stay at home mom so I will be spending valentines with my special little men at home my two boys. My husband surprised me today with the date I didn’t expect it but I’m happy. #valentinesday #husbandandwife #marriedlife #registerednurse

... Read moreIt's true what they say – when you're married to a healthcare worker, flexibility becomes your middle name! My recent surprise 'pre-Valentine's Date night' really got me thinking about how crucial it is to get creative with our celebrations. It's not always about the actual date on the calendar, but about making time for each other whenever we can. For me, one of the biggest challenges has been learning to let go of traditional expectations. We can't always do dinner on February 14th or celebrate anniversaries on the exact day. Instead, we've found joy in inventing our own traditions. Sometimes it's a fancy takeout meal after a long shift, or a cozy breakfast in bed on a rare day off together. The key is to communicate and plan ahead, even if 'ahead' means just a few hours' notice, like my husband's sweet surprise. If you're also navigating life with a healthcare hero, here are a few things that have helped us keep the romance alive: Embrace 'Off-Peak' Celebrations: Don't wait for the designated holiday. A Tuesday night can be just as romantic as a Saturday if it's the only time you have. My husband's recent surprise, where we went out dressed up – I even put on my favorite red lipstick and a cozy fuzzy jacket – felt so special, even though it was days before Valentine's. These 'pre valentines Date night' moments are often the most memorable! Stay-at-Home Date Nights: When schedules are unpredictable, bringing the date home is a lifesaver. Think themed movie nights, cooking a new recipe together, or even just lighting candles and sharing a bottle of wine after the kids are asleep. These quiet moments are precious. Small Gestures Matter: A thoughtful note tucked into a lunch bag, a favorite snack waiting after a night shift, or a simple text saying 'thinking of you' can make a huge difference. It’s all about showing appreciation for their hard work and dedication, and these little heart emojis can say so much! Involve the Family (Sometimes): For holidays like Valentine's, I'm planning a special little celebration with my two boys. It might not be a romantic dinner, but making heart-shaped pancakes or crafting cards together still fills the day with love. It’s a different kind of love, but equally important. Prioritize Self-Care: It's easy to get caught up in supporting your partner, but remember to take care of yourself too. Whether it's a solo coffee run, a relaxing bath, or catching up with friends, a happy you makes for a happier us. Ultimately, love isn't confined to specific dates or times. It's about adapting, appreciating, and celebrating each other in ways that work for your unique life. And sometimes, those 'pre-Valentine's date nights' are the most memorable!
