Repotting a Venus Flytrap (VFT) is essential for its long-term survival and growth, especially when rescued from less-than-ideal store conditions like the infamous 'death cubes.' Carnivorous plant soil is a unique mix of sphagnum peat moss and perlite, carefully chosen because it is nutrient-poor and well-draining—fertilizer must be avoided as it can harm the plant. Using only distilled or rainwater is crucial since tap water contains minerals and chemicals that can accumulate in the soil and damage the plant’s sensitive root system. Likewise, selecting a pot with excellent drainage prevents waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. When repotting, gently remove the plant from its container and carefully loosen or shake off any compacted old soil. Compact soil can suffocate the roots and encourage mold growth.
