Strawberry crunch
Making a strawberry crunch at home is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the fresh taste of strawberries while indulging in a satisfyingly crunchy texture. What I love most about this dessert is its versatility—you can easily adjust the sweetness, add nuts or oatmeal for extra texture, or even incorporate other berries like blueberries or raspberries to suit your preference. When I prepare this dessert, I always start with the freshest strawberries I can find. Washing and gently drying them properly helps maintain their juiciness during baking. Another tip I've picked up is to lightly coat the sliced strawberries with a bit of lemon juice and sugar to enhance their natural sweetness and to prevent browning. For the crunchy topping, using crushed cookies adds a lovely texture contrast. I prefer to use shortbread or graham crackers crushed with a fork to keep it rustic and crumbly rather than overly fine. Mixing these cookie crumbs with a bit of melted butter and a sprinkle of brown sugar creates a golden, caramelized topping that's hard to resist. Baking time is key—too long and the fruit might become too soft, too short and the topping won’t get that perfect crunch. Typically, baking at 350°F (175°C) for about 25 to 30 minutes is ideal. I also like to serve the strawberry crunch slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. It's always a hit at gatherings and feels cozy on a cool evening. If you’re looking to make your strawberry crunch even more special, consider adding a few slivered almonds or a dash of cinnamon to the topping mixture. These small additions bring out the flavors and add a little extra depth to each bite. Overall, making strawberry crunch at home is a simple yet rewarding baking project that yields a deliciously sweet and crunchy dessert perfect for any strawberry lover.
