Do not give up on your dreams!
if I gave up after the first “NO” I wouldn’t be here today!
... Read moreIt's easy to look at my 'Pass' status for the NCLEX-RN and think it was a straightforward path, but trust me, it was anything but! My journey to becoming an RN, culminating in that moment at Pearson Professional Centers-Indianapolis, was a testament to sheer grit. When I saw 'She did it!!!! And now it's done ❤️❤️❤️' on my screen, it wasn't just a pass; it was the culmination of a seven-year battle. Many of you might be wondering, 'When did the NCLEX start?' For me, the journey truly began in 2017 when I first stepped into nursing school. Each setback, from schools closing down not once but twice, to my terrifying IIH diagnosis in 2019 where I almost needed brain surgery and had to drop out, felt like a brick wall. How did I keep going? It was tough. There were days I wanted to throw in the towel, especially when I was pregnant with my second baby in 2020 and working hard in the hospital during COVID. But every time, I'd remember why I started: to wear those scrubs, to hold that stethoscope, to use those nursing tools, and make a real difference.
My biggest advice for anyone facing a long road to their nursing dreams or preparing for the NCLEX is this: Find your 'why' and hold onto it. For me, it was the vision of being a D. Page, RN, BSN. Even when I was just getting my 'prenursing' degree in 2021, I knew it was a step forward. Don't be afraid to take detours. My path through South College in Indianapolis wasn't what I originally planned, but it led me exactly where I needed to be. Break down your big dream into small, manageable steps. Celebrate every small victory, like passing a difficult exam or just making it through a tough clinical day.
When it came to the actual NCLEX, my 'experience' was heavily shaped by my resilience. I approached it with the mindset that I'd overcome so much already. I focused on consistency in my study schedule, utilized review resources that fit my learning style, and practiced critical thinking questions relentlessly. Don't underestimate the power of self-care during this stressful period. Take breaks, get enough sleep, and most importantly, believe in yourself. That 'Pass' on November 22, 2024, wasn't just about my knowledge, but also about my unwavering determination.
So, if you're out there on your own nursing school or NCLEX journey, feeling overwhelmed by challenges, remember my story. If I gave up after the first 'NO,' I wouldn't be here today. Your path might be long, winding, and full of unexpected turns, but with perseverance, you will get there. Keep pushing, future nurses! You've got this!
