We thought removing the old vinyl and putting in new ones would be a quick, fuss-free process. Turns out… it wasn’t 😅
What we expected to take a few days stretched into two weeks! After stripping off the HDB vinyl, our ID called to say there was a height difference of 5-6mm between the bedrooms and living area. We could either live with the uneven flooring, or fix it properly.
We chose to level it which meant cement screeding, extra cost 💸 and more waiting 🕰️
Each time we visited the flat, it looked the same same but different. Just some cement patches appearing here and there, I couldn’t tell what had significantly changed, so I was feeling a little impatient. But looking back, I’m so thankful our ID didn’t rush the process. He was meticulous about getting the foundation right before anything else.
It might’ve taken longer, but now that the new vinyl is up, we can feel the difference. It feels solid, not hollow 👣
We went with Floor Expert – AVMPU 40080 with CLIPSK, a premium Belgian vinyl that’s waterproof 💧, scratch & stain resistant 💪, and looks just like real wood
Definitely the real deal!

In our case, after removing the old HDB vinyl, we discovered a 5-6mm height difference between rooms. Initially, we were tempted to just live with it, but we chose to properly level the floor using cement screeding. This extra step added both cost and time but made a huge difference in the final feel and durability of our flooring.
From experience, an uneven subfloor can cause problems later such as hollow sounds, uneven wear on your vinyl, and even premature damage. Taking the time to level ensures the foundation is solid, so your vinyl like the Floor Expert AVMPU 40080 with CLIPSK we used, which is waterproof and scratch resistant, can perform its best.
I also learned to be patient during the process. While the floor looked like nothing changed for days, the foundation was being set meticulously by our interior designer, and rushing this step could have compromised the entire project. Now, walking on our new floor feels sturdy and authentic, mimicking real wood perfectly.
If you spot a height difference before installation, I highly recommend leveling the floor first. It’s an investment in quality that pays off in a beautiful, durable result. Plus, choosing a quality vinyl flooring brand like Floor Expert enhances both look and longevity. I hope my experience helps those who are remodeling or upgrading their floors make better-informed decisions!
