Ever since my mom and I stumbled upon these giants of the citrus family a couple of years back, they've become a staple in our fruit bowl. You often see them in stores, a beautiful sight with their textured green or yellow peels resting on a display, sometimes even on a white countertop like the one in my kitchen! They look like an oversized grapefruit, but don't let that fool you – they're usually much sweeter and less bitter, which is a huge win for me. If you're wondering how to eat a pomelo, it's actually quite simple, though it might seem a bit intimidating at first due to its thick skin. My go-to method starts with scoring the peel deeply around the circumference, then making a few vertical cuts from top to bottom. From there, you can just peel it away with your hands – it comes off quite easily once you get going! The white pith inside is also quite thick, so make sure to remove as much of it as you can from the individual segments, as it can be bitter. Once you're left with those beautiful, juicy peeled pomelo segments, they're ready to enjoy. I often store any extra segments in an airtight container in the fridge for a quick, refreshing snack later. Beyond just being delicious, pomelos are incredibly healthy, making them an ideal choice for a healthy snack. When people ask what are the benefits of pomelo, I always highlight their impressive Vitamin C content, which is fantastic for boosting your immune system. They're also rich in antioxidants, which help fight off free radicals in your body.
