Frennamy Test
February 4, 2026
Let’s continue this ongoing test to identify if someone in your life might be a friennamy.
Examples:
• They make your boundaries seem unreasonable or “too much.”
• They compare your journey to theirs to minimize your growth.
• They keep score of favors and bring them up later.
• They listen closely to your struggles but never offer real support.
• They thrive on your confusion rather than your clarity.

From my personal experience, recognizing a friennamy can be challenging because these individuals often disguise their true intentions behind a facade of friendship. What really helped me was becoming more aware of subtle behaviors that seemed off, like when they constantly downplayed my achievements or made me feel guilty for setting healthy boundaries. For example, once I shared a personal struggle, expecting support, but instead, my friennamy just listened without offering any encouragement or advice, leaving me feeling even more isolated. Another red flag is when someone keeps track of favors and uses them to guilt you later. This behavior creates a toxic dynamic where kindness is a transaction rather than genuine care. I found that addressing these issues openly or taking a step back from such relationships significantly improved my emotional well-being. If you notice someone thriving on your confusion or discomfort instead of your clarity, it’s a sign to rethink that connection. True friends celebrate your growth and respect your boundaries without judgment. Paying attention to these signs can help protect your mental health and foster more authentic, supportive friendships.
